Couples and Relationship Therapy offers a safe space to you to hear, understand and acknowledge each other’s experience of your relationship. It is a supportive opportunity to explore differences, express feelings and work together to find ways for your relationship to move forwards, developing insights into patterns and behaviours that may not be supportive at this present time. Through creating a conscious awareness of the ways these patterns and behaviours could be impacting the relationship we can consider strategies and approaches to deepen and enhance connection and understanding within the relationship.

I aim to work alongside each of you in sessions utilising a range of therapeutic strategies and approaches which is known as the Integrative Therapy in addition to the Human Givens and Imago Relationship Therapy models. I am empathetic, understanding and genuine – there may be times where I challenge ways of thinking or communication approaches but this will not be done in a critical or judgemental way. I will always be drawing our attention to the conscious and unconscious dynamics at play, to support the relationship to grow. I hold a non-judgmental approach to what every person brings to each session. The focus is on building a strong trusting therapeutic relationship from which to support each person to reflect on what feels most important to you as you come together to navigate your relationship dynamic with one another.
Relationship areas I am experienced in supporting couples and families to explore:
- Communication challenges in the relationship(s)
- Uncertainty about the direction of the relationship(s) or shifts in relationship values
- Navigating fertility challenges
- Blending families with children and working with coparenting dynamics
- Challenges around affairs, trust, betrayal and loyalty
- Impact of life changes (births, deaths, career, financial changes, illness, children leaving the family home, caring for family members or retirement)
- Conscious non-monogamy, polyamory, fluid and open relationships
- Working with adult siblings in conflict
- Impact of separation
Discovery Session
Before committing to an initial cycle of 6-sessions together we will have an initial 1-hour discovery session to explore working together. It is an opportunity to discuss together the elements that bring each of you to explore counselling, and to consider the insight you hope to gain about your relationship through therapy. The initial discovery session also provides an opportunity for you to experience the therapeutic support and approach I work with in sessions. Following the discovery session we can then collaboratively decided if we will continue working together for an initial 6-week time frame. As we approach the end of the 6-week cycle of sessions we can review our work together and discuss further sessions, if and where appropriate.
